Project Description
The Newark Downtown District serves the district with multiple services that have significantly improved the operations as well as the image of the city. The NDD has created many programs and events to bring back merchants and businesses to the downtown including a weekly farmers market, monthly food festivals and other events. The organization is currently planning to move their center of operations from an office space on the eighth floor with no visibility to a ground floor space with a large exposed storefront.
Newwork has assisted the NDD in promoting their efforts in the community and has currently designed the interior space and storefront for the new location on Clinton Street. The space is planned to function as a marketing center and will have a display area and conference room in addition to the reception and waiting area. A largescale map of the district will be displayed on the main wall facing the street and will accompany the printed map and flyer that Newwork has produced.
In addtion to the branding of NDD, Newwork has developed a streetscape project for a small side street that functions as one of the downtown's most vital arteries. Clinton Street connects professionals from Penn Station and the Gateway to the Prudential Headquarters and other major office buildings on Broad Street. The street has never been considered a retail street and its image has remained undifferentiated and without life. The Newark Downtown District has established this project to demonstrate the potential of this improvement to become a model for other streetscapes in Newark.
